Dealing With A Cyberstalker

Technology is an amazing thing.  Just think back to life with out the Internet…OMG…it’s like the dark ages.  Now with a few simple clicks of the mouse people are able to reconnect with lost loves and family members…and sadly in some cases people are using the Internet to cyberstalk.

Cyberstalking is the use of the Internet to stalk or harass an individual.  The cyberstalking may include false accusations, monitoring, making threats, identity theft or the gathering of information in order to harass just to name a few examples.

eHow offers these tips if you think you have a cyberstalker:

Admit It…You’ve Done A Vanity Search

Haven’t you ever wondered what you would find if you “googled” your name?  Well…I have and I’ll admit that I’ve done it.  Yes, I’ve conducted a vanity search, I’ve autogoogled and self-googled and I’ve even gone egosurfing…and you know what I discovered?  There are a lot of people in the world with my name who have more exciting lives than me…sigh.

I really shouldn’t make light of “egosurfing” because while I was lucky and did find a couple of listings about me they were on boards that I post on, there was nothing embarrassing about me and there was no personal information (social security number, etc) that could cause me a problem.  Others aren’t as lucky and find personal information or embarrassing photographs that can jeopardize their personal and professional reputations.

How To Find People For Free On The Internet

I think most people have someone from their past that they wonder about – maybe it’s a favorite teacher, your best friend from the 5th grade or your first boyfriend.  It’s not like we want to stalk them, but we wonder where they are…if they’re happy…okay some of us might even wonder if they ever got married.

In the past it was almost impossible to find someone you’d lost touch with and if you wanted to find them it was almost certainly going to cost you…sometimes big bucks to do it.

Welcome To The Future – Cyberstalking

I think that sometimes we have a false sense of security when we use the Internet.  We will say things to people in forums and chatrooms that most of us would never say to some one’s face.  It’s  easy to say something rude or mean because the person we’re talking to doesn’t really know us or where we live, so what’s the harm?

Cyberstalking – is the use of the Internet to stalk or harass an individual.  The cyberstalker might use false accusations, monitoring, make threats, identity theft, damage data or equipment, solicit minors for sex, or gather information in order to harass.  The cyberstalking is a serious threat.

Hey, Have You Seen…?

It seems like it never fails that when I get together with old friends that the one question that is always asked is…”what ever happened to…?”  I guess it’s not surprising because very few of us still live in the town we grew up in, we don’t marry our high school sweethearts and jobs can take us across the country or around the world.

Thanks to the Internet it’s now much easier to find our old school friends, the kid who moved out of the neighborhood when we were 7 or even our first crush if we just know what to do.
